Biot is a very picturesque and very popular medieval village that's
actually about 2500 years old. It sits on a hilltop only 4 km from the
Mediterranean beaches between Antibes and Nice. Although the village
gets crowded with tourists during the summer, it retains much of its
natural charm and its feeling of antiquity, and is very active
year-round. Walk down the long street into the center of the
village to find the Place des Arcades with the quiet feeling of the 16th
century.

Cannes
is the "star" of the French Riviera, famous for the International Film
Festival and the glitzy hotels, cars, beaches and visitors attracted
here. Although it's probably the opposite of the Beyond type villages of
the "arriére pays", it would be a shame to visit the South of France
without experiencing the city for yourself. The yachts and cruise
ships float in the blue water, and you can't always tell which is which
by the size. The city of Cannes is centered around the old port,
with the central part quite compact. The famous "Croisette" is the
boulevard and the beach that extends around the bay to the east of the
port, in the protected "Rade de Cannes". |

The nearest French Alps ski resorts are
Issola
2000 and Auron, on the edge of the Mercantour National Park,
approximately one hour north of Nice, towards the Italian border. At
2000 m, Isola has 120 km of pistes - a total of 45 (4 black, 14 red, 20
blue, 7 green). Purpose-built in the 70s, there are ample ski
lifts and one rarely has to queue. Auron, at 1600m, is a typical
alpine village with 132 km of pistes. There are plenty of shops
renting skis and equipment together with ski instructors. The lively
restaurants and cafes on the edge of the pistes, and a panoramic view
from the cable-car up to 2300m make it a winter must. |
